Dr. Paul Gerardi


Dr. Paul Joseph Gerardi, age 65, passed away surrounded by his family at his Albertville farm, on May 11, 2019. Dr. Gerardi was a 1976 graduate of Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was a member of the American College of Osteopathic Internists, the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American College of Gastroenterology, the State of Alabama Medical Licensure Commission, and the State Medical Board of Ohio. Dr. Gerardi practiced at Oakland General Hospital in Detroit, Michigan for many years. He then practiced at Marshall Medical Center North and South, until he became disabled after a motorcycle accident, on September 6, 1999. Dr. Gerardi was a passionate physician and medical leader in his community.

He was also a devoted and loving father. He is survived by his daughter and her family, Jessica Gerardi Johnson, husband Shannon Johnson, Jessica and Shannon’s children, William Johnson, Cole Howell, Miles Johnson, Paul Johnson, his daughter, Amber Gerardi, Amber’s daughter, Isabella Noblitt, and son, Joseph Gerardi. Dr. Gerardi is preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Peter Gerardi of Saco, Maine.

The family would like to thank the countless individuals in the area that helped keep Dr. Gerardi healthy and happy over the past 20 years. The accident left him with a traumatic brain injury, and the family is forever grateful for the assistance of many caregivers that loved him on a daily basis.

Visitation will take place at St. Williams Catholic Church, 929 Gunter Ave. in Guntersville, on May 14, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral services immediately to follow at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to The Society of St.Vincent de Paul, in lieu of flowers.

Dempsey Willard Smith


Dempsey Willard Smith, 84, of Boaz, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019.

His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Boaz Carr Chapel. Visitation will be 10 until 11 a.m. Tuesday before the service.

Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Greg Smith.

George Lenton Young, 77, of Albertville passed away Friday, May 10, 2019.

His funeral service was Monday, May 13, 2019.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife: Evelyn Clanton Young; Children: Patrick Young, Angie McDill, Tammy Claborn Otinger (Mike), Johnny Harris (Michele); 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brothers: John Young (Brenda), Tim Young.

Bettye Raines Breland, 90, of Albertville passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Albertville. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Memory Hill.

Survivors are sons, Allen Breland (Vicki) and Brent Breland (Shirley); 3 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Survivors include parent, Chirsti Jones; sisters, Payton Brook Brown, Brooklyn Bryant and Macy Lynette Jones; brother, T. J. McCoy.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Marcus Sims; daughters, Tarina Sims Garrigan (David) and Tonya Sims Fussell; son, Raymond “Toppie” Marcus Sims, II (Lisa); 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Womack and Patricia Couch; brother, Eugene Presley.
