Sardis hosts eight-team girls jamboree

The Sardis Lady Lions hosted an eight-team varsity girls basketball jamboree Thursday afternoon at Sardis Gym.

Besides the Lady Lions, the jamboree attracted Douglas, Crossville, Guntersville, Ashville, Southside, Westbrook Christian and Sand Rock.

Games started at 2, with two games running simultaneously throughout the afternoon.

Host Sardis played Guntersville, Southside and Westbrook.

The Lady Lions and Guntersville each feature several new faces.

The most experienced varsity players competing for Sardis Thursday were Lindsey Walter, Brittney Vest, Heather Hall, Karlie Sims and Chelsi Matthews.

Rising senior Nicole Kerstetter was the most experienced varsity player on the floor for Guntersville. Seniors Simone May and Taylor Norwood did not compete Thursday.

Alan Thacker’s Douglas Eagles played without senior Corie Prichard and sophomore Lani Daniel. His roster included returning varsity players Jaimie Evans, Kayla Stapp, Amy O’Donnell and Emily Baugh.

Also competing for DHS on Thursday were Ashley Caughman, Marah Bonds, Courtney Ivey, Meg Southerland and Rhonda Bailey.

New Crossville head coach Jon Peppers is using the playing dates to implement his offensive and defensive schemes.

His 10-player roster Thursday included returning varsity players Casey Bryant, Audra Garner, Randi Jones, Destiny Adkins, Jena Bright, Brittany Young and Destiny Bright. Moving up from the JV are Ashley Bright and Courtney Thacker.

After sitting out last season, junior Leah Little is returning to the CHS program this season.

Douglas to host jamboree – Thacker said his Eagle squad will host a jamboree July 18 at 5 p.m. at Loyd Berry Gym.

Ashville and Crossville will also compete, and Thacker said it’s possible two other teams will be added to the lineup.
