Burglaries hit Albertville

Several businesses were burglarized Tuesday night in Albertville.

“To have this many business burglaries in one night is very rare,” said Albertville Police Chief Benny Womack Benny Wednesday.

Womack said six burglaries took place overnight.

The businesses broken into included Dr. Carlton Martin’s office on East McKinney Avenue; Mutual Savings on Sand Mountain Drive; Liberty National Life Insurance on West Alabama Avenue; State Farm Insurance on U.S. Highway 431 North; Reaves Title Inc. on U.S. Highway 431 North and Woodall & Hoggle Insurance on North Broad Street.

Womack said, “All the burglaries were forced entries and several of them had been accomplished by kicking in the back door. In the majority of the break-ins the thief avoided some of the more typical items taken in burglaries such as computers, cameras, VCR’s for any accessible cash available instead.”

Womack said, “As a result of some physical evidence left at the scene we are developing a suspect.”

Womack felt it was possible the same individual might be responsible for all the burglaries.

In the Woodall & Hoggle case Womack said, “It appeared an attempt was made to gain entry by the back door, but was unsuccessful.”

Albertville police detectives continue to investigate the
