Three local people were killed Saturday in an automobile wreck near Birmingham.
At approximately 9:40, three local persons were fatally injured in the one-vehicle accident occurring one mile north of Springville on Interstate 59 in St. Clair County.
Crystal Wright, 25, of Collinsville, Michael Cooley, 30, of Albertville, and Travis Henry, 18, of Boaz were transported to the St. Clair County Coroner’s office, according to the accident report from the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
They were traveling in a1999 Pontiac Grand Am.
According to reports, the trio was returning home from a trip to Florida when they encountered an animal on the highway and swerved the car to avoid striking it.
The Pontiac left the highway and reportedly flipped multiple times before it erupted in flames.
Henry was initially listed as an unknown victim on the accident report due to the extent of his injuries.
The accident is still under investigation by State Troopers Ware and Whitten.
According to a friend of Cooley and Henry, the pair were regular wrestlers for Henry’s father’s wrestling ring in Boaz.
“Those two guys loved the fans and would do anything for them,” said Jackie Cannon of Boaz.
“They were great athletes. This is a shock to everybody who watched them wrestle or knew them, and I hope everyone will pray for the families of (the three victims) because I’m sure they are going through a rough time with their loss.”
