The postseason party is about to begin on Sand Mountain.
Five local high school football teams have earned spots in the state playoffs, which begin Friday.
Schools have little say in matters relating to game management once they make the playoffs. The Alabama High School Athletic Association sets rules on admission and how revenues from the game are divided.
Season tickets sold by each school will not be valid Friday. That means seats which have been reserved all season are now up for grabs for the first people to reach them.
Albertville High School Principal Paul McAbee said the Aggie Stadium gates will open at 5 p.m. Friday — two hours before the Aggies’ kickoff against Chelsea.
Tickets for all playoff games are $7 each, a price mandated by the AHSAA before the season. No passes out of the stadium may be granted and local teacher passes will not be accepted.
In addition, all artificial noisemakers are banned.
Albertville will be at home for its first playoff game in five years. The Aggies were 0-10 just three years ago and have improved steadily since then under coach Tommy Tharp.
Albertville is 6-4 and will welcome the Chelsea Hornets (7-3) in Class 5A.
Defending 4A champion Guntersville opens its title defense at home as well. The Wildcats finished 7-3 and will play host to Hamilton (6-4).
Sardis (7-3) also earned a home playoff game — the school’s first in 19 years. Elkmont will visit Sardis Stadium.
Boaz lost two of its first three region games yet ripped off a five-game winning streak for a return to the playoffs. The Pirates (7-3) will visit Tuscumbia’s Deshler (8-2), which has been to the state championship game three of the last four years.
Geraldine also had a hot streak to earn a postseason trip. The Bulldogs (6-4) have won four straight and will visit Colbert County (9-1) for a date in Leighton.
