Mayor’s forum to be fully interpreted

Published November 26, 2009

The mayor’s forum scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Albertville Primary School’s cafeteria will be interpreted in its entirety for the Spanish-speaking population.

Albertville Mayor Lindsey Lyons said he has arranged for two interpreters to be at the forum.

“I thought it was critical, number one, that we were able to address as many questions because I do expect a large turnout,” Lyons said.

“On the other hand, I think it is necessary for the Spanish-speaking community to be conveyed information on anything that is brought up.

“There is a lot of relevant information that we can certainly make them aware of about issues in our community and I thought this was the perfect way to go about this,” Lyons said.

One of the interrupters will be there to interpret questions posed to the mayor from Spanish speakers and the other interpreter will provide a written translation of all the questions and answers that will be projected onto a wall or projection screen.

This means the forum will not have a verbal interpretation.

There will not be any pre-screened questions and those interested in asking questions will have to fill out their name on a card and place it in a box.

Then the moderator will draw names from the box and allow the person to ask a question.
