Hospice of Marshall County received a $25,000 donation from Larry Fortenberry, on behalf of the SpringBash ‘09 on Thursday.
“This is a very important fundraiser for us, for Hospice of Marshall County,” Rhonda Osborne, CEO of Hospice, said.
Hospice of Marshall County is a non-profit organization that specializes in caring for loved ones and their families when they have to cope with end-of-life issues. It is the only licensed non-profit Hospice care facility in Marshall County.
Hospice will use the money to help fund services they do not get reimbursed for, such as their bereavement services, which they offer free of charge. Some of the money will cover some of their general operating expenses.
“Without the communities, Hospice of Marshall County could not do what we do and the community has been so supportive of us and we want to give back, so we are glad to partner with Larry, his family, and the city,” Osborne said.
She said the SpringBash is an important event to the community because it brings people into the city.
This was the second year for the SpringBash and Fortenberry, the director, said he was already working on improving it for next year.
“We’ll start looking at next year and some changes will be imminent without a doubt,” Fortenberry said.
He did not give any specifics on what would change though, because he said he didn’t want to bore the crowd at Hospice of Marshall County’s Shepard’s Cove facility.
During his speech, he told a story about how it was supposed to rain out the air show for the past two years.
He said this year there was supposed to be a 90 percent chance of rain, and there were only a few drops that fell at the airport.
The year before that it rained half a mile away from the runway.
“God is telling this community something,” Fortenberry said. “We need to listen to him.”
