Police probe $120,000 Kmart theft

Published October 31, 2009

Albertville police are investigating the theft of nearly $120,000 in merchandise stolen from Kmart.

The burglary was reported around 11:40 p.m. Thursday after the department store had closed and employees had left for the night.

Kmart is located at 7200 U.S. 431 North in Albertville.

“Officers responded to a burglar alarm at the business and, upon arrival, located a rear door ajar,” said Albertville Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith, citing the report.

“During a search of the building, it was discovered that several items from the electronics and jewelry departments were missing.”

Smith said the initial value of the loss totaled nearly $120,000, according to the report.

“The incident is under investigation,” he said.
