Boaz head football coach Drew Noles said he’s already heard about one of the favorites things in the new L.F. Corley Jr. Stadium.
“It has the security so you can’t drop anything through the bleachers,” Noles said.
The excitement is building among Pirate fans who are anticipating watching a game in the stadium, which played host to commencement exercises in May and the back-to-school celebration on Tuesday.
Boaz will welcome Plainview in a fall jamboree Aug. 21 at 7 p.m.
The Pirates’ first regular-season game in the facility will be Sept. 12 when they play host to archrival Albertville.
“We have new fencing up all around the field, they put some new sprinkler systems on the game field and then they painted the goalposts,” Noles said.
“We have a new scoreboard, and they’ve been able to put the old scoreboard over on the practice field, which has really helped our practice schedule.
“We have new light poles and a new press box on the home side with the fencing around the top. We also have a new visitors press box in which you’ll also be able to get coaches on the top of it.”
The stadium’s former visiting team dressing room was converted into restrooms. The building will still feature a concession stand.
“On the visitors side, there’s a new concession stand with more bathrooms, and a visitors dressing room which is really nice,” Noles said.
“There’s plenty of restroom space in the stadium now, and that will be a plus.”
The school is adding another entrance/exit to the stadium. There will be more handicapped parking spaces, and the lot behind the field house will be repaved and striped.
“It’s been exciting, and it’s been good to get some of this stuff done,” Noles said.
Reserved seats go on sale Monday: Reserved seats for Pirate football will be on sale Monday through Wednesday for previous ticket holders.
Seats will be sold to the public beginning Thursday.
Cost will be $100 per seat. Tickets will be sold in the office at BHS.
