Man charged with dog cruelty

Published July 18, 2009

Calls from area residents alleging canine cruelty landed an Albertville man in jail this week.

A dog, possibly a Border Collie mix, belonging to Andrew Jackson Turner, 58, of 1519 Rose Road, in Albertville was taken into protective custody by an Albertville Animal Control Officer, Thursday, after Turner was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and public intoxication.

Turner is alleged to have beaten the dog with his fists.

Officers responding to a call of possible animal cruelty discovered Turner with blood on his fists and the dog with blood on his snout. Turner was taken into custody and the dog was taken by Albertville animal control officers.
