G'dine, CHS girls triumph

RAINSVILLE — Kristen White poured in 30 points to power Geraldine to a 59-49 triumph over Class 4A, No. 7 Plainview on Monday morning in the quarterfinals of the 56th Sand Mountain Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs (11-4) will play either Ider or Section in the girls semifinals today at 3 p.m.

White finished 9-of-16 from the free-throw line against Plainview (9-7). She hit three 3-pointers, all in the first quarter, which ended with Geraldine in front 13-10.

The Lady Bulldogs led 27-24 and 43-35 at the other quarter breaks.

Raney Body netted eight points, Caitlyn Roe seven and Paten Chavis and Alanna Smith six each for GHS. Ashley Rains added two.

Caitlin Robertson’s 12 points led Plainview’s attack. Both Alex Poole and Anna Busby had 11.

Crossville 59, Sylvania 55: A trio of Crossville players scored in double figures Saturday night, propelling the Lady Lions past Sylvania in the first round of the tournament.

The Lady Lions (8-7) met girls No. 1 seed North Sand Mountain in the quarterfinals Monday night.

The Crossville/North Sand Mountain winner plays the Fyffe/Pisgah winner in the semifinals tonight at 6.

Molly Williamson led CHS with 16 points on Saturday, hitting 6-of-7 free throws. She made four assists.

Keelie Wilkes scored 15 points while Emily Peek racked up 10 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots.

Crossville led 16-13 after a period, but the contest was tied 33-33 at halftime. The Lady Lions were up 45-42 at the final rest stop.

Both Darby Williamson and Macey Simpson scored six, Jaycie Bobo four and Krysta Mathews two for Crossville.

The Lady Lions converted 13-of-16 free throws.

Sylvania’s Taylor Frazier poured in 25 points, hitting 11-of-12 free throws.

Hannah Haynes collected eight points and 16 rebounds.

VARSITY BOYS

Fyffe 57, Geraldine 52: Class 2A, No. 3 Fyffe held off Geraldine’s fourth-quarter rally to earn the victory Monday afternoon in the varsity boys quarterfinals.

Fyffe (11-2) claimed leads of 15-8, 27-21 and 45-28 at the rest stops.

The Bulldogs (5-8) rallied in the fourth period behind Tyler Malone, who hit four 3-pointers.

Malone paced GHS with 15 points.

Matthew Cole scored 10, Wade Williams eight and Ryan Treadaway seven for the Bulldogs.

Taylor Thrash, of Fyffe, scored a game-best 17 points. Jesse Martin tossed in 13 and Jesse Townsel nine.

Geraldine’s varsity boys and girls will play at Beulah in Lee County on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Beulah’s varsity boys coach is former GHS boys coach David Owen.
