Bid for Asbury School addition OK'd

Published August 13, 2009

GUNTERSVILLE — The Marshall County Board of Education approved a $1.758 million bid for a classroom addition to Asbury School during a meeting Tuesday.

“It’ll be part of the elementary building and come off the back of it,” Superintendent Tim Nabors said.

The addition will include 15 classrooms, a library and teacher workroom, Nabors said.

“We have 18 to 20 portables in the back, and hopefully we’ll get rid of those or at least the majority of them,” Nabors said.

Eidson & Associates, of Cullman, submitted the bid.

Nabors anticipated the project would cost more than $2 million and was thrilled with the lower figure.

“It was a tremendous bid from a good company,” Nabors said.

Construction is expected to begin in two weeks and be completed in June.

“We’re just excited about it, and hopefully this time next year we’ll have the kids start in the new building,” Nabors said.
