Purple Aggies net State berth

Published November 19, 2005

The Albertville Purple Aggies U12 girls soccer team will compete in the AYSO State Tournament today and Sunday at Heritage Park in Cullman.

The team qualified for State by finishing as the runner-up in the AYSO Area 5F Tournament played Nov. 5-6 in Athens.

The Purple Aggies posted a 7-2-1 record during regular-season matches.

In the Area 5F Tournament, the Purple Aggies defeated Guntersville 5-1, Cullman 4-0 and Athens 1-0. They lost 4-0 in the championship match to the Albertville Terminators.

The Purple Aggies’ lineup for the tournament included strikers Hailee Adams, Abigail Diaz and Kaley Sawyers; midfielders Mary-Catherine Mitchell, Courtney Moore and Callie Robinson; defenders Caitlin Kellett, Lauren Latham, Allison Parmer, Sarisa Willoughby and Savannah Woods; and goalkeeper Brittany Copeland.

Team members Annalyse Alldredge (injury) and Ashley Lambert (illness) were unable to attend the tournament.

“Our top scoring players are Abigail Diaz and Kaley Sawyers, and our goalkeeper – with too many saves to count – is Brittany Copeland,” said assistant coach Karen Moore.

Heath Adams serves as head coach, and Jim Mitchell is also an assistant coach.

“The coaches would like to thank the girls for their hard work, dedication and their sportsmanship shown throughout the season,” Moore said.
