The Braves and Dodgers split the first two games of their weekend series, and Atlanta took the rubber game Sunday by a 5-3 score.

It marked only the Braves’ second series win against the Dodgers in the last six seasons (12 total series). They previously took two of three at Dodger Stadium from July 20-22, 2015.

It is Atlanta’s first home series win against Los Angeles since 2013, when the Braves swept three games from May 17-19.

Sunday’s battle was the last of the season between the clubs.

SERIES WIN: Atlanta (74-52) won its 25th series of the season, surpassing its series win total from last season’s 90-win club … The Braves are 25-9-6 in series play this season, including 12-4-4 at SunTrust Park … Additionally, the Braves improved to 13-3 in rubber games this season, including 8-0 in such games at home.

RAFAEL ORTEGA: Gave the Braves the lead with a sixth-inning grand slam … Playing in his 114th career major league game, hit his second career home run … His only other homer came on May 25, 2016 as a member of the Angels … He hit a three-run homer off Texas’ Shawn Tolleson in the eighth inning of a game the Angels were trailing 13-6 … He entered the day with a 244 at-bat homerless streak, the fourth-longest active streak in the majors (Matt Duffy, 358; Jon Jay, 301; Rubén Tejada, 246) … In 111 games with Triple-A Gwinnett this year, Ortega hit a career-high 21 home runs … Prior to this season, he hit 48 home runs in the first 11 years of his professional career, a stretch covering 1,103 games.

BULLPEN: Four pitchers combined to throw four scoreless innings … After allowing five runs in 2 1/3 innings in the first game of this series on Friday, the Braves entered play Saturday with a 7.16 bullpen ERA (39 earned runs/49 innings pitched) this month … Over the last two games, both wins, the Braves bullpen tossed 8 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, one walk and eight strikeouts.

MAX FRIED: After allowing three runs in the first inning and the first two hitters to reach in the second, retired 11 of the next 13 hitters, including the final eight, six via strikeout … Did not factor into the decision, snapping a stretch of five consecutive starts with a win … Recorded his fifth pickoff of the season, nabbing A.J. Pollock off first in the opening inning … Came into play today tied with Washington’s Patrick Corbin for the National League lead in that category … At the plate, hit his fourth double of the season … For reference, the rest of the Braves pitchers have combined to hit two doubles (Dallas Keuchel and Julio Teheran both have one) … No other National League pitcher has more this season … Zack Grienke and Brandon Woodruff also have four … Fried is 5-for11 (.455) at the plate in his last four starts.

ADEINY HECHAVARRÍA: Had two hits, including driving in the Braves’ first run with a double … Has four hits in three games with Atlanta, hitting safely in each game … In 60 games with the Mets to start the season, Hechavarria never hit safely in more than two games … In his final seven games with New York (NL), he went 1-for-21 … This was Hechavarrίa’s first multi-hit game since July 14 at Miami.

SERIES LOSS: The Dodgers suffered only their ninth series loss of the season …They have 27 series wins and have split four sets … The Dodgers last dropped a series nearly a month ago … They lost both games to the Angels from July 23-24.

CODY BELLINGER: Hit his major league-leading 42nd homer in the first inning, a three-run shot … That moves him into a five-way tie for fifth place on the Dodgers’ single-season home run list …Shawn Green (2002), Gil Hodges (1954) and Duke Snider (1953 and 1955) also hit 42 … Shawn Green holds the franchise record, hitting 49 in 2001 …This was Bellinger’s 15th homer off a fellow left-hander …No other major league left-handed batter entered play Sunday with more than 11 such homers this year … Additionally, 16 of Bellinger’s homers this year have tied the game or given the Dodgers the lead (38.1 percent).
