From Douglas teammates to Albertville coaches

From left, Chris Staton, Brandon Lyles, Cliff Mitchell and Steven Waldon pose together on photo day for the 1998 Douglas football team. The four played crucial roles in helping the Eagles, coached by Mitchell’s father, Rex, achieve the second state playoff berth in program history. Twenty-one years later, new Albertville head coach Cliff Mitchell and his defensive coordinator, Lyles, and their team launched preseason practice Monday. The Aggies went 6-5 and advanced to the state playoffs in 2018. AHS kicks off the Mitchell era by hosting Columbia on Aug. 30.
