Turn off your cell phones at the movies

Posted: Monday, September 24, 2012 3:31 pm

Have you ever gone to the movie theater, bought your tickets, got some popcorn and a drink, sit down in your seat and as soon as the movie starts, someone is texting? Not only is it very annoying to the other people in the theater, but I personally think it is just plain rude.

That is exactly what happened when I went to the Boaz 9 on Saturday night.

It is absolutely true that you should not use your mobile phone when you are at the theaters. Unless you have sensitive calls to attend or make do not at all use your phone it is better to keep it switched off.

Cell phones have become our survival tools in time of need and so people always try to carry them wherever they go. I believe using your mobile phone in silence mode is the best option while watching a movie in a theater.

Thanks for the response to my posting. Seems the guy has an ego/ better than thou attitude. Folks with attitudes as this are simply one thing.........Obnoxious! They need to grow up and act 40ish. A definite candidate for the famed Darwin awards that are in dire need to be handed out from time to time here on SMR world.

Hey truth, Thank you soo much for your comment. I really appreciate your veiws on subjects of intrests. We share the same opinion on this matter. One thing I forgot to mention is that I am 37 years old, and the guy on the cell phone is older than me. I know this guy and for the life of me can't remember his name. Anyway, his is a local business owner and a contractor. I have delt with this guy before in public and he is a very rude person, to say the least. As for the movies, I really enjoy going to the Boaz 9, the owners, Frank and Carlo, and the rest of the staff have always treated me with class and respect. The best part of the Boaz 9 is truely their staff. They have an incredable job, and the masses of people who go to the Boaz 9, have respect to not to be on there phone, during the movie. I know it is always the few who will spoil it for the many. Alot of my friends always say for me to go to Gadsden or Huntsville to see a movie. why should I be inconvenienced to go some where else, when I get great service here. I hope you will accept my invitation and go to the Boaz 9, and watch a movie, I recomend the new Clint Eastwood movie.

Frank i am big on sarcasm and my comment was as such knowing what you were up against and enduring at the cinema. As we both know, the younger generation has no sense of respect to others, themselves, or muchless their kids. This is the reason i never frequent theatres anymore. When i was a kid and pulled some of the back talk on someone as the newer generation is doing, i could expect swift and sudden correction from a parent or adult. The younger generation either just don't know any better, know how to act in public or simply does not care.. As i said, i gave up. I can remember the first movie show i ever seen and without ever being told once i knew i was to behave and show respect to other watching. As a kid of 13 yrs old i was a projectionist during the summer months at a local theatre. If one was being a distraction, i was instructed to cut the movie and raise the lights till the problem was escorted out. Cell phone texting and web surfing is the new on the go can't get enough of craze. Until the cinema policy bans all cell phone usage and enforces it, i protest them by watching movies at home. Should have gotten his cell phone number so you could have sent him a text saying " cut your cell off". Perhaps he would have then understood and complied since texting is all this loser seems to understands. He has the right to let his kid watch what he wants. Sad the kid will probably be the kind that will end up having serious teenage issues later on. You reap what you sow ey? As far as the important phone call, he should have taken it outside and returned after the phone call was handled. Hope this clarifies my stand on the subject at hand.

Old school, thanks for your comment. If this guy was expecting an important phone call, why was he at the movies, and besides he told the staff when he was asked to turn off his cell phone that he was getting the score to the Alabama game. Now I agree with you on that it is his business on what his kids watch. But don't go to the theater and complain to the staff on how the movie was inapporate for his wife and kid to watch. It was his own fault for not previewing the movie. Did you by chance even read the article that was submitted or did you just skip that part and just jump to the comment section?

Hey truth, First off I like to say thank you for your comment. Now I read alot of your comments and agree with a great majority of them, and there is few that I may not agree with. I am a bit confused with your responce on the cell phone issue. Are you saying that it is okay to text in a movie theater? Are you saying that its okay to be rude to the other people in the theater, by continuing to text while other people are trying to watch a movie. Yes I know you save money by going the video store and buying your own popcorn. By watching a movie at home doesn't solve the problem. The problem is that this guy at the Boaz 9, had no respect for anyone else, including his family for even letting his 12 year old daughter watch that movie. Now I did find the movie entertaining, but it is also ment for adults to watch and enjoy. Nevertheless the problem with people texting with at the movies is way out of control. It seems like everytime my wife and I go to the movies, someone is always texting. I always turn my phone off during a movie and enjoy my peace and time with my wife, in an atmosphere to escape the problems in the world for 2 hours. Is that really to much to ask anyone to turn off your phone for 2 hours?

Go by the grocery store and grab some jiffy pop or grab some milk duds then make a detour to the video store...........problem solved! Then count the cash you saved.
