Marshall County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) recently received a grant of $75,000 from The Daniel Foundation of Alabama for construction of the new RSVP Gathering Place, Marshall County RSVP Director Jean Ann Moon.
Moon said the Daniel Foundation of Alabama’s mission is to strengthen communities within Alabama and improve the quality of life for citizens across Alabama. She said the foundation believes this can be achieved through support of effective organizations that are focused on building a healthy and well-educated population and living in a vibrant community.
According to Moon, RSVP received the Arts, Culture and Community Assets grant which was awarded to recognize how the thriving arts community contributed immeasurably to the quality of life in Alabama.
“It is given to organizations with the availability of arts and cultural offerings, which weave together our diverse population in important ways and preserve Alabama’s unique historical, natural and cultural resources as an important piece of this cultural backdrop,” Moon said.
With the grant, RSVP has almost reached its funding goal to complete the building, according to Moon. She said in giving the grant, the Daniel Foundation presented a challenge, “We hope our funding serves as an encouragement for other funding.”
Moon said RSVP needs help to complete the building, and the community can help by donating a tax-deductible gift. She said opportunities remain to name rooms in memory or honor of a person, business or group.
