Big Spring Lake Kindergarten (BSLK) is close to finishing its new pre-K facility.

Construction of the $1.8 million project began back in November and looks to be done in a little more than two months.

“Although rain delayed the initial phase of construction earlier in the year, great progress has been made to date,” BSLK Principal Beth Rigsby said.

“The construction should wrap up soon. We anticipate opening in August for the 2019-2020 school year if all goes as planned.”

The future home of Big Spring Lake’s pre-K program will have seven classrooms, a physical education space, reception area and offices for administrators.

“With this new campus, we’ll be able to maximize the space,” Albertville Superintendent Dr. Boyd English said. “This [new facility] is a great addition to what we have already, and it will allow our preschools to stay on campus for two years before moving to the elementary school.”

The pre-K classes had previously been housed in Albertville’s primary and elementary schools.

Rigsby also said the move would make it more feasible for pre-K and kindergarten teachers to work collaboratively to provide an excellent foundation of learning for all students. She is also eager to have the pre-k faculty, staff and students join them and be housed on the same campus.
