As the Marshall County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) prepares to move into its new facility, the RSVP Gathering Place, it needs help from the community.
It will have five training rooms and the organization would like to fill them with a wide variety of programs for adults at an affordable price.
RSVP looking to add new and interesting courses to its Academy of Lifelong Learning, a continuing education program.
If anyone has a hobby, craft or specialized skill, and is interested in teaching it within the program, please email RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 256-571-7734.
Instructors kindly donate their teaching time to help so RSVP can keep its courses affordable.
To encourage people to become lifelong learners, RSVP offers classes in many different formats like one-session workshops or presentations, multiple-session classes, panel discussions, lectures and more.
RSVP plans to continue and expand its music programming. Currently, the organization hosts:
• An RSVP Community Chorus, no auditions necessary, just the joy of singing. Chorus will start back this fall off site because of our move. They will start Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Church of the Epiphany Episcopal Church on Sunset Drive, 1:30 -3 p.m.
• RSVP Dulcimer Jammers are meeting off site at the Guntersville Rec Center on Thursdays from 9 a.m-11:30 a.m.
• RSVP “Ukesters” are meeting off site at the Guntersville First Baptist Church on Thursdays at 1 p.m.
RSVP will have a new room specifically for art. There could be art appreciation, watercolors, photography, journaling, Paint and Take, ceramics, crafts, dancing, beading, needlework and textiles, Reader’s Theater or a small troupe. RSVP currently has puppeteers, monthly book club and a knitting and crochet group.
RSVP Reading Buddies are at all local elementary schools to work one-on-one with kindergarten-second grade students.

Health and Wellness Programming
RSVP offers “A Matter of Balance and Balance” exercise classes and a drug roundup of unused and expired medicines. It will be Oct. 25 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Albertville Senior Center, Arab Recreation Center, Boaz Senior Center and Guntersville Recreation Center. We have therapy dog teams and need more.
RSVP offers free income tax and electronic filing during tax season. It has a computer lab with 12 station and a computer club that meets monthly on the last Saturday of the month. In addition to computer classes and genealogy , RSVP offers one-on-one sessions to help individuals with new phones and tablets or other computer questions. We currently have subscriptions to Ancestry libraries to help with your genealogy research.
