The Whole Backstage Community Theatre (WBS), with the generosity of season sponsor Sonny Lewis, presents the classic British farce, “Noises Off!” for its fall show. Performances will be Oct. 25, 26, 31 and Nov. 1 and 2, at 7 p.m., with Sunday matinees Oct. 27 and Nov. 3 at 2 p.m., directed by Whole Backstage veteran Johnny Brewer.

“This unique work is a play within a play, written in 1982 by English playwright Michael Frayn,” Brewer said. “As the opening action begins, the troupe is in final dress rehearsal for what seems to be a potential flop, ‘Nothing’s On.’ The seasoned director and his company of mediocre actors realize that they face dilemmas onstage intertwined with predicaments offstage, with: love triangles, chaos, confusion, costume malfunctions, misinformation, disguises and mistaken identities, while all are experiencing exhaustion as they work on their final preparations to open their show the next evening.

“An all-star cast of actors make up this special group of individuals that I have all directed before, and several were actually my college theatre students,” he continued. “‘Noises Off!’ is one of my all-time favorite farces, along with ‘Charley’s Aunt’ that we performed in spring of 2018, mostly for the clever storylines combined with the fast-paced pandemonium. This very talented cast is making rehearsals productive and fun as they work their lines, stage moves, and master their British accents. They are doing a great job working together to make this a truly enjoyable and hilarious show.”

“Noises Off!” premiered in London in 1982, opened on Broadway in 1984 and then had successful New York revivals in 2001 and 2015, with all productions winning several nominations and awards. In 1992, “Noises Off!” was made into a movie with Carol Burnett, Michael Caine, Nicollette Sheridan, Christopher Reeve and John Ritter. True to the script, this stage production in three acts contains mature comedic themes and innuendos.

General admission ticket sales for “Noises Off!” will begin soon, with prices: $12 for student tickets, $18 for senior adults and $20 for adult tickets.
