A man from New Hope has been charged with murder after a body was discovered after a vehicle caught fire in Grant on Sunday, Jan. 26.
Marshall County deputies arrested Corey Lee Collier, 26, and charged with the murder of Brandon Young, 33, also of New Hope, after his body was discovered in burning vehicle, Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims said.
Early that day, deputies responded to a “suspicious” fire at a mobile home on Simpson Point Rd in Grant at 5:10 p.m. Approximately 30 minutes later, they were called to another fire, this time involving a vehicle on Holcomb Ridge Road Grant. Grant and Swearingin Fire departments responded to the scenes.
After the flames were doused, a body, later identified as Young, was discovered in the vehicle. Sheriff investigators, state fire marshals, and the coroner responded to the scene. Autopsy results showed signs of blunt force trauma to the body, Sims said.
Collier remains in the Marshall County Jail on a $200,000 bond. He also has outstanding warrants with the New Hope Police Department.
“I want to thank all the agencies involved for helping solve this case,” Sims said. “Agencies involved were state fire marshals, New Hope Police Department, Madison County Sheriff's Office, Grant Police Department, Marshall County District Attorney's Office and the Marshall County Coroner Office.
