A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 431 in Mountainboro left one driver severely burned Monday night.

Boaz Police Chief Josh Gaskin said the accident happened around 9 p.m. when the driver at fault entered U.S. Highway 431 from a service road through the grass and did not have its headlights on.

Before the driver of the second vehicle realized what was happening, he struck the back of the vehicle at fault and caused himself to flip, Gaskin said. Significant injuries to that driver were not reported.

After the collision, Gaskin said the first burst into flames. Once pulled from the truck, the driver at fault was taken to the hospital and flown from Marshall Medical Center South to be treated at UAB Hospital’s burn unit, he said.

Boaz Fire Department and Mountainboro Volunteer Fire Department assisted.
