FORT PAYNE — The Albertville varsity girls clinched the regular-season Class 6A, Area 13 championship and earned the right to host the Area 13 Tournament by edging Fort Payne 38-35 on Friday night.
The Aggies extended their winning streak to six games. They are 16-2 overall and 3-0 in the area standings.
Albertville sprinted to a 14-2 lead after a quarter, as Sarah Rutledge, Grace Kelley and Emma Greer each hit a 3-pointer. The Aggies led 23-11 at intermission.
AHS experienced a terrible third quarter, managing only one point. Fort Payne scored 14 and vaulted in front 25-24 at the break.
Savannah Rutledge and Hannah Sanders both scored six points in the fourth quarter to help the Aggies regain the momentum and secure the victory.
Savannah Rutledge totaled 10 points for the night while Sanders got eight. Greer contributed six, Kelley five, Sarah Rutledge four, Jayden Watkins three and Landon Phillips two.
Fort Payne’s Kylie Neil scored a game-best 21 points.
The Aggies travel to Arab on Tuesday night and host archrival Boaz on Friday for senior night. It’s their final home game of the regular season.
Albertville will be the varsity girls No. 1 seed in the 2020 Marshall County Tournament. The varsity action tips off Monday at Snead State.
