Baker makes block

Albertville’s JC Baker blocks a shot during a play date game against Gadsden City in June. The Aggies tip off the 2019-20 season by hosting Arab on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The Albertville varsity basketball teams will now open their 2019-20 seasons against Arab, which will be rematches of the 2019 Marshall County Tournament finals.

Albertville’s original season opener against Guntersville on Nov. 19 has been postponed due to the Wildcat football team’s participation in the state football playoffs.

Aggie varsity boys head coach Patrick Harding said a makeup date for the Guntersville games hasn’t been determined.

Albertville will host Arab on Nov. 21. Tipoff times will be 6 p.m. for the varsity girls and 7:30 for the varsity boys.

Last season, Albertville edged Arab 51-49 in the varsity boys finals to win its fifth county championship of the decade. The Aggies went 5-2 in the finals from 2010-19.

No. 6 seed Arab upset No. 1 seed and defending champion Albertville 49-43 in the varsity girls finals. It marked the third straight year the No. 6 seed won the girls crown.

Besides the Arab games, Albertville’s remaining schedule for November is:

Nov. 22 — at Boaz, VG 5:45, VB 7:15

Nov. 25 — Decatur, VB 6

Nov. 26 — Madison Academy, VB 6

Nov. 27 — Decatur Heritage, VB 6
