Local authorities recently detained two persons of interest in the case of a missing man whose skeletal remains were found scattered in a wooded area of Boaz.
Etowah County deputies announced the remains were those of Johnny Lee Rhodes.
Deputies received a report of a dog finding skeletal remains Monday, more than a month after Rhodes was last seen in the area.
Authorities said the bones included a surgical steel plate that belonged to Rhodes. After returning to the scene Tuesday, more skeletal remains and a cellphone believed to belong to Rhodes were recovered.
As of Tuesday morning, authorities did not release how the detained persons were connected to the case.
