Investigators with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office arrested a former volunteer fire chief Tuesday, Oct. 8, on suspicion of misappropriating funds at the Georgia Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.

Board members with the fire department first notified the Sheriff’s Office a month ago after noticing some “questionable expenditures,” Marshall County Assistant Chief Deputy Steve Guthrie said.

Investigators discovered funds missing in excess of $5,000.

Jason H. Edmonds, 40, of Guntersville, was charged with first degree illegal possession/use of a credit/debit card. He was released Tuesday on a $30,000 bond.

“We would like to thank the Georgia Mountain Fire Department for their full cooperation during this investigation,” Guthrie said.

Edmonds had already resigned from his position as volunteer fire chief before his arrest, Guthrie said.
