John Mark Burks

Homewood

John Mark Burks, 67, of Homewood, passed away on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019. He was born Nov. 28, 1951, in Choccolocco, son of the late Rev. Gilbert and Hilda Burks. He grew up in Albertville.

John graduated from University of Alabama with a J.D. in 1976. After receiving his J.D., he worked as an attorney, then a partner with DeCosmo & Company; CPA firm in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1996, he moved to Birmingham as tax trust department manager with Regions Bank. He retired in 2002.

He loved studying the Bible, playing board games with his family, and Alabama football. He was active in Vestavia Hills and Shannon Churches of Christ. Surviving are his three sons, Christopher (Elizabeth Baker), Perry and Trevor Burks from Birmingham; brother, David Burks of Tucson, Arizona; and sister, Mary Burks (Bruce Rogers) and niece and nephew, Jordan and Joshua Price of Louisville, Kentucky.

Friends are invited for a commemorative gathering honoring his life on Monday, Sept. 9, 5-7 p.m. at Aldridge Gardens, 3530 Lorna Rd, Hoover, AL 35216. A private family memorial service will be held following the gathering with Vance Drum officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Brain Tumor Association or the charity of your choice.

Warren G. Gilbreath

Sardis City

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at Bethlehem Baptist Church for Warren G. Gilbreath, 96, of Sardis City, who went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 3, 2019.

Rev. Wayne White, Jason Gilbreath and Kenny Gilbreath officiated. Burial followed in Whitesboro Baptist Church Cemetery with Etowah Memorial Chapel directing. Pallbearers were: Blake Gilbreath, Jon Carr, Jason Holland, Sam David Knight, Dr. Jed Howington and Whitt Rutland.

He was a native of DeKalb County and a resident of Etowah County most of his life. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he sang in the choir during his active years. He served in years past at Whitesboro Baptist as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and song director.

Warren was employed by Allis Chalmers and also worked in all aspects of farming. Singing was always an important part of his life and he had a beautiful voice. He was active in community affairs throughout his life. He and his wife were named FHA Farm Family of the Year in 1972.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Imogene; daughters, Wondal (Ed) Perry, Ann (Mike) Carr; sons, Kenny (Nina) Gilbreath and Kyle (Vickey) Gilbreath; eight grandchildren;13 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Dwight; his parents, James Wesley and Mary Jane Gilbreath and eight siblings.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Judy Mashburn

Sardis City

Judy Mashburn, 70, of Sardis City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019 .

Her memorial service was held Friday, Sept. 6, at Etowah Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Mashburn is survived by her husband, Roger Mashburn; children, Kimberly Luttrell (Marty), Donald A. Mashburn, Ronald D. Mashburn, nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Jones (Mike); brother, Mack Saint (Ginger); sister-in-law, Kathy Saint; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Wanda Mashburn; host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her Parents: Junior and Ruby Saint, Brother: David Saint

Jack Benny Prance

Albertville

Jack Benny Prance, 81, of Albertville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019. A visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 8, from 1-3 p.m. at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home, with the funeral service at 3 p.m. with Jerry Darnell officiating. Burial will follow in Marshall Memorial Gardens.

Jack married his high school sweetheart, Judy Holder, after graduating from Albertville High School in 1956. He was employed at Bell South as a repairman/lineman and retired from South Central Bell after 35 years as a cable splicer. After retiring, he was a farmer for an additional 20 years selling produce, cut flowers and muscadines at local farmers markets. His hobbies included camping, hunting and fishing, creating archery equipment and hand crafting knives.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Judith “Judy” of Albertville; daughters, Shelia Prance (Berry French) of Franklin, Kentucky and Penny Anerton (Darrel) of Athens; granddaughters, Nita Mayes (Matt) and Leigh Anerton; great-granddaughters Taeja Mayes and Brianna Mayes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Nadine Prance of Albertville; brother David Prance of Boaz. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shepherds Cove Hospice of Albertville or a charity of your choice.

Myra McCreless Hulsey, 66, of Boaz, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019.

Service will be held today, Saturday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. at McRae Chapel with Bro. Wayne White officiating, interment will follow in the Beulah Cemetery.

Mrs. Hulesy is survived by her husband, Danny Hulsey of Boaz; daughters & sons-in-law, Jennifer & Michael Wright of Douglas, Rachael & Jessie Alexander of Boaz; two grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Glendell Lee Treece, 74, of Crossville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.

Survivors include his wife, LouAnn Anderton; daughters, Linda Treece Roden of Boaz, Sheila Atchley (Tim) of Guntersville; sons Michael Treece (Michelle) of Blountsville, David Treece of Crossville, Jonathan Alexander of Guntersville; sisters, Jean Baldwin (Jerry) of Albertville, Della Lemley and Mary Lemley of Albertville.

Survivors include her daughter, Dora Scott; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one great great-granddaughter; sister, Kay Alexander (Mike).

James Oliver, 93, of Albertville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.

Treddie R. East, 70, of Albertville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Sept. 8, at 1:30 p.m. at Adams Brown Service Chapel with Bro.’s Auther Feemster and Alan Lang officiating. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Bethsadia Cemetery.

Survivors include a sister, Nelda Waldrop (Milford).

Ray Hudgins

Guntersville

Ray Hudgins, 83, of Guntersville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019.

His funeral will be today, Saturday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. at Albertville Memorial Chapel. Rickey Bell will be officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Leila Hudgins; children, Johnny Ray Hudgins, Regina Denise Fernandez, Lora Lee Hudgins (Danny) of all California; three grandchildren.

Albertville Memorial Chapel is directing.
