The Asbury varsity boys basketball team posted a 3-0 record in the 2019 Liberty Bank Thanksgiving Shootout at Geraldine.
The unbeaten Rams improved to 8-0 on the season.
Asbury wrapped up play in the Shootout by knocking off Class 5A opponent Sardis 57-48 on Nov 27. The Rams are 4-0 against teams in 5A, Area 13 this year (Sardis, Boaz, Crossville and Douglas).
The Rams led 19-16, 33-21 and 46-33 at the quarter breaks.
Asbury’s Matt Wilson scored a game-high 20 points. Landon Talley netted 13.
Jacob Hopper’s 19 points paced Sardis. Chase Williams contributed 10 and Jay Owens nine.
CCHS 60, Sardis 52
Cherokee County beat the Lions on Nov. 26 in the Liberty Bank Thanksgiving Shootout.
Sardis was up 18-15 after a quarter but trailed 37-29 at intermission. The Lions rallied and tied it 47-47 at the final quarter break.
Hopper tossed in 13 points and Williams 10 to lead Sardis.
Asbury 65, Sylvania 55
Skylar Bearden posted a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds, propelling the Rams to their Nov. 25 victory in the Liberty Bank Thanksgiving Shootout.
Wilson scored 15 and Mauricio Zurita-Cortes 12 for Asbury, which led 16-14, 33-30 and 42-38 at the breaks.
Appalachian 65, Sardis 59
The Lions fell to Appalachian on Nov. 25 in their opening game of the Liberty Bank Thanksgiving Shootout.
Appalachian was in front 20-13 after the first quarter, but the Lions forced a 30-30 tie at intermission. The Eagles led 45-43 at the third-quarter break.
Sardis’ leading scorers were Hopper with 15 and Williams with 13.
