If my math is correct, I’ve written about 1,400 columns in my career. Today’s writing, I expect, may well be my last. Retirement is here.

Last. I was the last of my buddies to get a cell phone. My first one came in 1995, back when they were called “car phones.”

As our grandson Jay Shurett approaches the milestone of being “two and a half years old,” we love watching him enjoy his favorite television show – Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
Many people have been so kind in their emails, telephone calls and personal visits since my Mary and I announced our pending plans for retirement.
Every once in a while, it’s good to step back and take time to appreciate the good things in our lives. You and I should do that more often.
