Nancy Jane Horsley McMahon


Nancy Jane Horsley McMahon, of Huntsville, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Monday at age 76 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Sue Fuller Horsley; her husband of 33 years, James Raymond McMahon; and her infant granddaughter, Catherine Rose McMahon. She is survived by two sons and four grandchildren: John McMahon, who lives in Front Royal, Virginia, with his wife, Mary, and their children, Peter, Ruthie and Leo; and Thom McMahon, who lives with his wife, Karen, and their son, Patrick, in Omaha, Nebraska.

After graduating from Boaz High School, Nancy earned degrees in English literature and Spanish from Birmingham-Southern College and went on to obtain an M.S. in education from Samford University.  She worked as a teacher and guidance counselor in the Jefferson County, Marshall County and Huntsville school systems. After devoting many years to raising a family, Nancy returned to work, conducting training courses in writing with the Communications Skills Company in Huntsville for 11 years and working as a technical editor for Teledyne Brown Engineering for 17 years.

Nancy was a very active member of the community.  Along with several friends, she formed a small company which gave walking tours of the Twickenham District.  She was a member of the Blossomwood Garden Club, in which she served a term as president, and was also a member of the Huntsville Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi and of the Huntsville Literary Association.  

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, Episcopal with Father Michael Goldsmith officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.    

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.   


 Clint O’Neal Bailey


Clint O’Neal Bailey, 22, of Albertville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Albertville Funeral Home Downtown with burial following in Marshall Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Chris Kitchens officiated.

He is survived by his sons, Cannon Jerome Bailey, Cody Dawson Bailey (Cassie Shay Holder), of Albertville; mother, Sarah Melissa Smart, of Albertville; sister, Carlie Ryann Bailey, of Geraldine; grandfather, Barry Jerome Smart, of Albertville; father, Christopher O’Neal Bailey, of Albertville; stepfather, John Stephan Crow, of Albertville.

Albertville Funeral Home Downtown assisted the family with arrangements.


Denise Johnson Smith


Denise Johnson Smith, 65, of Crossville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019.

She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Smith and Stacy Smith Black; four grandsons; sister, Leisa Stancil.

Norbert J. Heider


Norbert J. Heider, Jr., 85, of Albertville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.

His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at Albertville Memorial Chapel. Rev. Dave Verzyl and Rev. Jerry Butler will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.

Visitation will be from 12:30-2 p.m. before the service.

He is survived by his daughter, Shelly Heider; son, Ryan Heider (Mary); two grandchildren; brother, Ronald Heider (Darlene). 

Albertville Memorial Chapel is directing.


Osey Lee “B” Harris


Osey Lee “B” Harris, 102, of Albertville, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Adams Brown Service Chapel with Pastor Gayle Lombard officiating. Burial followed in Mt. High Cemetery.

Survivors included daughters, Eloise Hately, Nancy Gary (Gerald); son, Carl Harris (Beadie); seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
