Sidney David Fuller

Sidney David Fuller, a loving son, husband and father who pointed others to Christ, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2019. He was 90.

His desire was to stay at his home in Skirum until he went to heaven. Friends, neighbors, caregivers, hospice and his closest family helped make that a reality for “Pop.” They cared for him with love, grace and humor.

Sidney was predeceased by his father, James Franklin Fuller; his mother, Truma Mae Monroe; brother-in-law, Eurell Malbutt Gilbert; and his loving wife, Johnnie Hearn Fuller.

Sidney is survived by his sister, Braunda Fuller Gilbert; daughter, Lisa (James) Smith; grandchildren, Fuller (Whitney) Smith, Morgan (Toni) Smith and Sidney (Nolan) Roberts; and great grandchildren, Harper, Callen and Lucas Smith.

Sidney served in the Korean War. He enrolled at Auburn University after a dare from his brother-in-law, Eurell Gilbert. He finished school in three years with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture science. He taught school for one year then went work for Buck Appleton at Southland Hatchery. Later in life, he started Fuller’s Poultry Service that employed many fine young men and women in our community over the years.

Services will be at the Skirum United Methodist Church today, April 6, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting South DeKalb Celebrate Recovery (P.O. Box 96, Geraldine, AL 35974).
