Lyda Jean Bostick
(formerly of Boaz)
Lyda Jean Bostick, went to be with her Savior on Nov. 30, 2019. She was born on Feb 16, 1927, near Boaz to the late R. Clyde and Conola Elrod Smith of Sunnyside Farm, a dairy. The oldest of four children, she was an excellent seamstress. She was a delegate for the state of Alabama at the National 4H Congress in Chicago, Illinois, in 1945. Valedictorian of Sardis High School, she excelled at academic studies. She earned an Associates with honors at Snead Community College and graduated from Auburn with a degree in textiles.
She married her Auburn sweetheart, Shelley McDonald Bostick, in April 1949. They moved to Chattanooga in 1957.
She and her husband were committed to Brainerd Baptist Church and deeply involved in the children’s ministry.
A dedicated teacher, she taught home economics and science in the Chattanooga city schools. Upon retirement, she served as hostess with Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelley M. Bostick; son, Gene McDonald Bostick; brother, Robert C Smith, Jr.; sister, Martha Ann Smith. She is survived by her sister, Glenda Sue Smith; her children, Clyde Bostick, John David Bostick (Katrina Koo), Connie Cox (Casper), Rebecca Suzanne Bostick. Her grandchildren are Geoffrey and Benjamin Bostick, Joie de Bostock; Lauren Bostick; Cobalt (Hope), Cerulean, and Cyan Cox. Her precious great-grandchildren are Rebekah, Hannah, Olivia, and Sophia Bostick. She had many nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating her life will be held at Brainerd Baptist Church on Friday Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. with a graveside service following at Hillcrest Cemetery at 2 pm (CT) in Boaz. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 4-7 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home East.

Alvie Louis Walker
Alvie Louie Walker, 79, of Boaz, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 6, at McRae Funeral Home Chapel with Jerri Manasco and Doyle Parker officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Church of Christ Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Walker of Boaz; son, Lamar Walker of Boaz; daughter and son-in-law, Lorri and Mack Johnson of Harvest; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Donald Kidd, 78, of Boaz, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019.
His funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 6, at Etowah Memorial Chapel. Burial followed at Belchers Chapel Cemetery. Rev. David Dunn and Rev. Greg Whitt officiated.
He is survived by his wife, Delma Kidd; son, Blake Kidd; daughter, Angela Dunn; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Faye Coker.

Debra Bailey, 65, of Albertville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019.
Her funeral service will be today, Saturday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m., at Adams Brown Funeral Home, and visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Beulah in Fyffe with Brother Wayne Brooks and Brother Wayne Tarvin officiating.
She is survived by husband, Willie Bailey; sons, David Bailey (Melissa) and Steven Bailey (Rachel); sister, Jackie Graham; brother, Charles Graham; and three grandchildren.
George “Dale” Hedgepeth
Petersburg, Michigan (formerly Boaz/Sardis City)
George Dale Hedgepeth, 82, of Petersburg, Michigan, formerly Boaz, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019.
Hedgepeth is survived by his wife, Faye Lawley; two children, George, of Flint, Michigan, and Mary (Paul) Eldredge, of Tecumseh, Michigan; and two grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Ernest) Stamey, of Ringgold, Georgia, and Gail Bartlett, of Sardis City; and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and close friends
Family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 9, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Etowah Memorial Chapel, in Sardis City. A graveside funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, at the Boaz-Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz. Pastor Robert Gibson and Ernest Stamey will officiate.
